Ok. So a friend of mine said to me the other day (in not so many words) that smart girls are boring. He couldn't really explain in terms I could understand, but I'm guessing that his definition of 'smart' doesn't really gel well with mine.
Needless to say, it struck a nerve. I haven't been able to get it out of my mind - one reason being because the friend is a total potential. Wait, am I being categorical? YES. And apparently, I lose points for even using the word categorical.
I mean, not to be biased, but when did anyone say it was alright to create that big of a box around any trait? I am offended. (Actually I'm not.) But I feel like I should be. For all the interesting smart girls out there.
Ahem.
So... are there any of those out there? I mean, I'm feeling all self-righteous because I know how interesting *I* am, and technically I'm on the upper end of 'smart', but what if we really are a dying (::::gasp::::) dead breed?
Of course there are different kinds of interesting. My gut tells me that this guy's version did not involve book clubs or humanitarian pursuits. I think it had a lot to do with spontaneity - lack of restraint - basically a whole pot of crazy that most intelligent people don't stir. So I guess he has a point.
But to imply that smart girls aren't fun hit home.
Is this why I'm alone? Are my books the only partners I could ever hope to keep? And even more frightening: Are smart men boring?
I've always been a watch-and-learn type of person - I can hang out with anyone, I'm adaptable, and I'm always up to try something new at least once (unless it's heroin. That's my stopping point.). So perhaps smart girls just seem... out of reach? Stuffy? Erudite?
Not that he was particularly talking about me. But who, then? Perhaps he meant to say, "Smart girls don't send me naked photos of themselves," or "Smart girls aren't interested in me." Either of those I could have dealt with. But boring?
Uninteresting and tiresome; dull. Monotonous. Kind of like this post is getting. So I'll turn it over to you guys... I know that it's an individualized thing, but in general are less intelligent people more fun? More socially versed? Or are the IQ groups too segregated to even know?
